Southwood Building Contractors Limited was incorporated in October 2007 with Mr. Lee Southon as the sole director. At the time Bob Southon (Lee's father) was a partner in a separate construction company which he co-formed in 1988, this company received several awards for their work including twice winning a national gold award as sub-contractor of the year. In 2009 Bob Southon joined Lee as a co-director of Southwood bringing with him a client base of major developers which includes McCarthy and Stone, Churchill's and Colten Developments.

Referrals play a key part in the success of the company together with recommendations from architects, and since its formation the company has gone from strength to strength.
